Chairs:
Hans-Martin Foisel, Deutsche Telekom, Germany
Vishnu Shukla, Verizon, USA

Description:
Cost effective means are needed to meet the growing demand for end-to-end bandwidth services. The current mode for provisioning such services, in most cases, is inefficient and costly due to the lack of interoperability between different vendor platforms, network interfaces and the carrier domains.

Interoperability is a key enabler to provision end-to-end bandwidth services and NGTN deployment. Interworking capabilities required at adaptation/ transport, control and management layers are identified.

The workshop will cover the following aspects of NGTN interoperability, most critical for end-to-end service provisioning:

  • Service adaptation over SDH/SONET networks using GFP, VCAT and LCAS

  • Control Plane Interfaces (User-Network-Interface, UNI; External Network-Network-Interface, E-NNI)

  • Control plane - management plane interfaces

  • ITU-T Automatically Switched Optical Networks (ASON) - IETF Generalised Multi-Protocol Label Switching.
